Armenia Digital Nomad Visa 2026: Requirements & How to Apply

Who is eligible

Because there is no single "nomad visa," eligibility depends on which route you use. As of July 2026, Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that nationals of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and all 27 EU member states can enter visa-free and stay up to 180 days within a calendar year. Citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan) can live and work in Armenia without a visa. Everyone else can apply for an e-visa online at evisa.mfa.am. For anyone wanting to stay longer or establish tax residency, the route is a temporary residence permit, which Armenia grants to foreigners who can show a valid reason to live in the country for a year or more — typically work, entrepreneurship (registering as an individual entrepreneur), study, or family ties.

Income requirement

There is no income requirement, because there is no dedicated nomad visa to attach one to. This is the honest picture: as of July 2026, multiple immigration practitioners report that Armenia's temporary residence permit carries no minimum-income threshold and no requirement to show bank statements or savings. What matters instead is demonstrating a valid ground to reside — most commonly registering as an individual entrepreneur (a sole proprietor) and applying on the basis of that business or work activity. Visa-free entry and the e-visa likewise have no income test. If you plan to become an Armenian tax resident, your income only matters for which tax regime you qualify for (see below), not for entry.

Required documents

For the temporary residence permit (the route most long-stay nomads use), the core documents are:

• Valid passport, plus copies and passport-style photos
• Completed application and proof of your ground to reside — e.g. individual-entrepreneur registration, an employment contract, a business, study enrolment or family documents
• A health/medical certificate and proof of an address in Armenia, with the state fee paid

How to apply, step by step

1. Enter first. Most nomads arrive visa-free (up to 180 days) or on an e-visa obtained at evisa.mfa.am, then decide whether to stay longer.
2. Establish a ground. To go for a residence permit, register as an individual entrepreneur or secure work/study/family grounds, then gather the documents above.
3. File the residence application with Armenia's Migration and Citizenship Service, pay the state fee, and collect your one-year residence card after processing (roughly 30 days per official estimates).

Cost

As of July 2026, the state fee for issuing (or extending) a one-year temporary residence card is AMD 105,000, roughly US$266. The e-visa is far cheaper, starting around AMD 3,000 (about US$8) depending on the visa type. Budget extra for translations, notarisation, photos, a medical certificate and any legal help — these are estimates that change. Note a scheduled reform: Armenia is moving residence applications to a fully digital system from 1 November 2026, with higher fees (about AMD 150,000 for temporary permits) taking effect 1 January 2027, so applying under the current, lower fee before then may save money.

Processing time

As of July 2026, official estimates put temporary residence processing at around 30 days from submission, though some practitioners cite 45–55 days in practice depending on the ground and workload. E-visas are typically approved within about three business days. Treat all timeframes as indicative, not guarantees.

Tax implications (overview)

Armenia's low-tax setup is a big part of its appeal. You become an Armenian tax resident if you spend 183+ days in a calendar year in the country (or your centre of vital interests is there). Stay below that and, generally, your foreign income isn't taxed in Armenia. If you do become resident and register a small business, the micro-entrepreneurship regime allows 0% turnover tax on annual turnover up to AMD 24 million (~US$62,000) — though many professional services (consulting, legal, accounting, engineering, advertising, design, marketing, translation) are excluded and instead fall under the turnover-tax or general regime. Regime elections generally must be made by 20 February, and returns are filed with the State Revenue Committee. Get specifics from a licensed Armenian advisor.
